Consciousness - What is it?

Would you say that to have Consciousness means to be self-aware?

That is to say, do you think that to have Consciousness is to know that you exist?

A human raised in society has self-awareness.

But is that Consciousness?

According to that statement, only humans and some primates have Consciousness?

I don't think that to have Consciousness it is necessary to know that you have it.

A human baby does not have Consciousness of itself... Does it mean that it does not possess Consciousness?

Well, I define Consciousness as Identity maintained in time.

A Someone separated from the rest that, by maintaining this separation at every instant, generates the subjective experience of the Self.

And here, in defining what experience is, is where the confusion arrives.

I define experience as the result of Perception and interaction with the perceived Environment.

The understanding of the environment or the thoughts generated during the interaction, only condition the type of experience.

But they do not define whether there is, or is not, an experience.

Experience is the result of the interaction of an Identity with the environment.

A plant interacts with the environment.

It feeds itself, spreads its roots, seeks the sun.

It controls its body.

It does not control the body of another plant, nor of an insect other than itself.

It controls its own.

Because its Self is interacting in a subjective experience.

Consciousness is the result of a Self maintained in time.

The type of Perception will define the type of experience.

Thus, the experience of a cell does not resemble that of a plant.

Nor that of a spider.

Nor that of a dolphin or a human.

Plants have interests derived from their interaction with the environment.

The interests of a Self are not defined by the intellectual or emotional result of being deprived of them.

The interest in living should not be conditioned by the fact of possessing a self-conscious mind.

The interest in living is defined by the response of every organism to the damage suffered.

They repair themselves. They try to survive.

I affirm that Consciousness is not a chemical response that occurs in some living beings.

I affirm that Consciousness is the result of Presence (Self-perception) and is the same for every living being.

It is what differentiates the inert from the living.

It is what separates Someone from Something.

Consciousness is the subjective experience of Someone.

Thus, a plant possesses Consciousness.

Actually, this is an erroneous phrase.

No one possesses Consciousness.

A plant is Consciousness.

All Identity is, therefore, Consciousness.
