Two worldviews coexist in the collective mind:
Conservatism and Progressivism.
This happens in all species, not only in humans.
Although, obviously, in the human species an intellectual morality has developed that gathers the characteristics of both worldviews.
I explain this in my book I Create a God.
Individual Perception causes us to feel separated from the rest of the world. It is the idea of the Self.
Kill or be killed, it seems to scream at us.
Collective Perception causes us to extend the idea of the I to the We.
But there cannot be an Us without a Them.
Thus, it seems to shout: let us help each other and protect ourselves from Them.
Why is the Collective Perception not able to understand that every Self that exists is, in reality, We?
And, therefore, there is no Them.
This has to do with the dynamics of groupings in the form of Entities.
Think of the human body.
We are made up of billions of single-celled beings.
If we were now to witness the creation of the first multicellular being (not a human, but the simplest of multicellular organisms), we would see something similar to this:
A few cells begin to associate in a limited space.
Thus, while everywhere unicellular beings compete with each other, at that particular point they begin to behave peacefully.
Then they begin to cooperate with each other. And this cooperation ends in specialization.
Specialization is a fascinating thing because, eventually, it will be in charge of creating working groups within the larger group.
This specialization is what lies behind the creation of organs.
In short, the cells will end up forming the components of the new multicellular being.
First there were many "I "s.
Then, those I's became a We.
And, finally, those "We" became a new "I" that contained them all.
Well, in existence there coexist an infinity of groupings like these.
Every grouping is a progressive process that tries to repeat this same process.
All groupings, without exception, happen because of the unconscious intention that beats within any living being.
From a pack of wolves, to an anthill, to a human family or a colony of bacteria, even a forest... All grouping, without exception, happens because of the unconscious intention that beats inside any living being.
It is the passage from different I's to a We.
Whenever a We is created, I call that group an Entity.
Entities can be binding or subordinate.
In the example of the creation of the multicellular being, there was a binding Entity and many subordinate ones.
The binding Entity is the one that will bring forth the new Self.
It is the group as a whole.
And, a binding Entity contains subordinate Entities.
The subordinate Entities are the specializations that will form the organs of the new Self.
In an anthill, for example, the Binding Entity is the anthill itself.
The subordinates are each specialized group within it. The workers, the warriors, the explorers, etc...
Each of them can branch into sub-groupings.
They are Entities that are subordinate to other subordinate Entities.
For example, in a company that manufactures tires and has 300 workers.
There are those who work in the production of tires.
Those who work in accounting.
In marketing. In administration. In sales. Customer service, etc...
All these departments are Entities.
But in the production department there are the operators.
Also the machinery maintenance technicians.
Even the warehouse workers.
These are also subordinate Entities of the subordinate Entity which is the production department.
Every structure in an Entity tends to specialization, because it is an unconscious tendency that comes from the Collective Perception itself.
We always do it, without knowing that we are doing it.
And, it happens by the process of grouping that I call Transfer of Perception, or Transfer of Identity.
It is the process by which we stop being many I's to form a We. And then, we cease to be We to form a higher Self.
Specialization is inevitable in any grouping in which the process of Identity transfer has advanced far enough.
It is like a switch that turns on and activates specialization.
And, now is when we address the two worldviews.
Conservatism happens at the beginning of the grouping, when the Transfer of Perception is starting.
Progressivism happens when the process of Perception Transfer is advancing.
In between, both coexist, even compete with each other.
Let us analyze a wolf pack and an anthill.
The wolf pack is a grouping of individuals.
There, the meritocratic rule of "the strong rule" prevails.
A wolf with less strength, with less character, with traumas, with some illness or injury, will be protected by the group, but will not enjoy the hierarchical privileges.
He may even die of starvation while the strong ones eat more than they need.
In an anthill there is equity among the members of the group.
They cooperate according to much stricter moral norms that guarantee rights simply because they belong to the group.
There is no difference between the members of the group according to their worth, but according to their function in the group.
Well, the fact is that neither the wolves have chosen their worldview, nor the ants theirs.
It depends on the percentage of Perception that has been transferred.
Basically, it depends on the amount of I that we maintain with respect to the We.
And, on the amount of We we have with respect to the Higher Self.
In the wolf pack, each of the wolves has a very high I (Individual Perception) and a much lower We (Collective Perception).
In a flock of ducks something similar happens. They have a high I and a low We.
If they were to advance in the process of transference of perception, they would begin to be more and more We than I. And, this would be reflected in the fact that they would be more and more We than I.
And, this would be reflected in the fact that they would begin to behave in a more coordinated and equitable manner.
The law of the strong would cease to prevail and everyone would eat in an organized manner. Probably, even the sick and weak would eat first.
In an anthill it is the opposite of what happens in a wolf pack. They have a very high We and a very low Self.
And, contrary to what we might think, the fact that ants are much more We than I, causes them to be the Higher Self.
The same thing happens in a hive of bees.
This means that each of the ants feels that it is more the anthill than the union of ants.
In the wolf pack they feel that they are more Self than We are.
And, if they would advance further in the process of Transference, as I explained above, they would begin to be more We than I. This would cause them to be more equitable.
This would cause them to be more equal to each other.
But, if they were to advance further, they would cease to be Us, to transcend and begin to be more the Higher Self.
Thus, first I am Me.
When I am grouped together I begin to be Us, progressively.
And, when I am much more We than I am, then I begin to be the Higher Self.
This has a very clear reflection in the good that is pursued in each case.
When I am I, I pursue the Individual Good: I Must Survive.
When I am We, I pursue the Common Good: We must all survive.
When I am Superior I, I pursue the Superior Good: The anthill must survive, not We or I.
We return to the worldviews.
Conservatism is an Us and Them.
However, Progressivism is also an Us and Them. But it differs from Conservatism in that in Progressivism, They must become an Us.
Progressivism consists, basically, in turning more and more groups of Them into Us.
This, turning Them into Us, is something Conservatives and Progressives could do.
But with differences.
In Conservatism, for Them to become Us, they would have to stop being Them and adapt to Us.
In Progressivism, for Them to become Us, both Them and Us must adapt.
Let us take a simple example.
Conservatism can accept individuals from other cultures, as long as they accept our culture and adapt to it.
The migrant can come as long as he accepts our beliefs and our culture.
Progressivism accepts individuals from other cultures, and adapts its own culture to accommodate theirs.
The migrant can come and we will try to allow him to keep his beliefs and his culture.
I was saying that an Entity, at the beginning of the transference process, is Conservative.
The I gives way to the We.
When the process has advanced much further, it becomes progressive.
The We gives way to the Higher Self.
As the Entities become more progressive, that is, more Higher Self than We, they are able to become part of higher Entities.
To understand what a higher Entity is, let us take the example of a nation.
In a nation there are individuals who live in families. They are the family Entity.
These, in turn, live in villages. Entity village.
The villages are grouped into counties. Entity county.
These counties are grouped into provinces. Entity Province.
And, the provinces are grouped in the Community. Entity Community.
Finally, the communities are grouped in the Nation. Entity Nation.
Even, the Nations are grouped in the NATO, the European Economic Community, etc...
I was saying that the Entities are part of superior Entities that affect them directly, but with a minor influence.
Thus, two neighboring peoples are two Entities.
Each of them should be seen as Us versus Them.
However, since they both belong to a Higher Entity, they are somehow part of a higher Us.
This is interesting, because it means that an Entity will see other Entities as Us, or as Them, depending on whether they share a higher Entity or not.
The ability for one Entity to perceive another as Us, rather than Them, will depend on the percentage of Perception it has transferred.
The higher the Higher Self, the easier it will be for this to happen.
That is why in Progressivism one seeks to include other Entities (Them) within the higher Entities (Us).
For Consevadurism to include individuals of other Entities (Them), they must leave their own Entity and move into that of Conservatism (Us).
Conservatism does not advance in Entities Superior to its own.
While Progressivism advances in Entities Superior to theirs.
This is because in the Progressive phase, it is more the Higher Self than the Us.
This is the summary of why I believe these two worldviews exist.
You can see it in every life form.
Every grouping will have a worldview depending on the percentage of Perception (or Identity) it has transferred.
Both will coexist for a time, but it will not be at the beginning, nor will it be at the end.
